Residual Biomass Power Plant
Chamusca Power Plant

The Chamusca project was the result of the Portuguese ongoing investment plans to enhance and support the transition to a low carbon emission economy, by producing electric and thermal energy from renewable resources.

The Residual Biomass Power Plant in Chamusca, Portugal, was one of these key role projects. It was based on private initiative, co-supported by POSEUR-Operational Program Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources/EU funds, encouraging the production, distribution, and diversification of energy from renewable sources.

Consuming 35.000 tons of residual biomass per year that are conducted to produce an electric power of 3 MW, this power plant receives not only residual forest biomass, but also agricultural and green residues from pruning.

In addition, the power plant produces 1.725 tons of ash for use as fertilizer for the local agriculture, as well as the creation of dozens of direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy.
